Richard T KellyRichard T Kelly has reported in his blog, a change to the title of his forthcoming 30 minute play (Jennifer), which stars Zoë and Andrew Buchan. The play is to be aired on Channel 4 as part of the "Coming Up" film season for 2010.

In entertainment news just in: that 30-minute telly script of mine that went before cameras back in February under the title of Jennifer has, in the final stroke of the post-production process, got itself a brand new title: Eclipse. It will be screened, among all 7 of this year's Channel 4/Coming Up films, at the Edinburgh Film Festival in June, and presumably it will air on Channel 4 in the summer - such were the windows afforded last year's Coming Up batch.

Survivors

Our friends over at Total Sci-Fi Online have learned that the BBC are not making a third series of Survivors, which of course starred Zoë as Dr Anya Raczynski.

The article goes on to say:

“Sadly the BBC aren't going to do any more Survivors,” a source close to the production told Total Sci-Fi. “They expressed genuine affection for the show and a real desire to go again but felt that with the ratings having slipped a little since the first series they couldn't take the risk. The sad truth is that we're somewhat the victims of having gone out on the main channel – in some ways the exposure is wonderful but in other ways it's a mixed blessing.

“Shows like Torchwood and Being Human benefitted from growing their audiences on the digital channels where it’s easier for this kind of genre show to grow and develop without being judged. With ratings over 4 million, Survivors would be considered to have a very substantial audience almost anywhere else except BBC1 and perhaps ITV.”

The source added that the cast and production team felt they had “ truly begun to hit our creative stride in series 2” and were upset at not getting the chance to develop the series further.

The news has not yet been confirmed or denied by the BBC, however both series have now aired in the UK and in the USA.

Zoë Voices Blake's 7 Audio

ZEN: Escape Velocity

According to the official Blake's 7 website, Zoë has voiced the character of The Pilot for the Blake's 7 Audio Adventure ZEN: Escape Velocity. The audio adventure is part of the BLAKE’S 7: THE EARLY YEARS series, published by the UK-based independent production company, B7 Productions and stars Zoë, Jason Merrells, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Alistair Lock as Zen.

THE EARLY YEARS is a prequel series of stories that explores the origins of key Blake's 7 characters prior to them meeting rebel leader, Roj Blake. This latest entry to the ever-expanding series takes a new twist, concentrating on a character that doesn’t breathe or have any parents, the synthetic intelligence ZEN.

When Roj Blake first stepped on board the mysterious, derelict alien spaceship Liberator, his every movement was monitored by the ship’s controlling intelligence, ZEN. Luckily, Blake and his rebel crew managed to gain the ‘confidence’ of this creation from an alien world and so was able to use the Liberator in his quest for justice against the Federation. But the origins of ZEN have remained a mystery, until now.

What terrible catastrophe left the Liberator drifting and shattered? What drove the ship’s intelligence to murder its original crew? What dark secrets lie at the heart of this alien machine? And are Roj and his crew really safe on board the Liberator?

The story is told from the point of view of one of the original Liberator crew, the human Pilot, played by Zoë. How a human without a past came to be on board this alien vessel will be just the beginning of this spine-tingling tale. For Zoë, playing a character with no past was an exciting challenge:

“With no past to draw from, the emphasis was on Pilot’s instincts. It was important for me to strike the right balance between portraying an innocent who is seemingly starting life afresh and in Pilot’s case, an old soul, whose innate wisdom and fighting spirit, tells her that all is not what it seems.”
